This is one barbecue dish that Tom makes time after time. It takes just moments to put together the marinade. Then, he pops the chicken into a bag or a bowl to marinate all day. When he gets home, all he has to do is light the barbecue and relax.

A Moment of Calm in Chaos

In The Shape of Lies, Tom is invited to his ex-wife's home for a barbecue. He brings his partner Louisa and his daughter, Lucy. Tom has been juggling a week filled with big revelations—not all of them good. He’s also on a high-stakes hunt for a double murderer. Amid all this chaos, he finds a rare moment of peace behind the grill at a family barbecue.

As his daughter Lucy hands him the marinated chicken, the afternoon offers a final moment of calm. This is before the case and the truth pull him back into the shadows.
