ON THE TRAIL...
OF DCI TOM DOUGLAS
ON THE TRAIL is a new series of conversations about some of my books - in this case, the DCI Tom Douglas thrillers.
In these sections we will discuss a key point about the books in the Tom Douglas series, and you have an opportunity to share your views as part of the Tom Douglas reading community!
I would ask only that you are polite and considerate to other readers. Any comments which are derogatory, inflammatory or in any other way unsupportive of this community will be deleted.

ONLY THE INNOCENT

The first book in the DCI Tom Douglas series, where readers first get to meet Tom!
My inspiration for writing this was based on a news report about a woman who had been charged with murder. She had killed a man. She wasn't the first, and she wouldn't be the last. But it made me ask myself: what set of circumstances could be so bad that a woman has no choice but to kill a man?
I struggled with this, finding it hard to think of a scenario in which she had no choice. Why couldn't she just walk away? Why couldn't she tell someone how he was behaving? And so I came up with a scenario in which she had no choice at all. No one would have believed her. She had no evidence. And the repercussions would have been so great, she would have achieved nothing by sharing what she knew.
My question to my lovely readers is - was she right? Did she have a choice? What else might she have done?
